Furnishings Care
The more you know about your home furnishings and the recommended method of maintenance and cleaning, the easier it will be to keep them looking their best.

Helpful Tips on Spotting - For Carpets
|
- Always blot or scrape up as much material as possible before it soaks into the carpet.
- For blotting liquids, use white paper towels or tissues. You might use a cloth, but it is less desirable. If used too long, the liquid will soak into the cloth which will then redeposit into the fibers and spread the stain.
- For scraping solid matter, use a table knife of ServPro scraper. Never use a sharp instrument.
- Never use soap. This frequently leaves a sticky residue that causes repid re-soiling.
- Do not allow solvent-based products to penetrate the backing. They might damage and soften the latex compouse used to strengthen the carpet backing.

Furniture Depressions on Carpeting
|
| Furniture legs may cause depressions in your carpet if allowed to stay too long in one position. If furniture is moved, the carpet will spring up in time, but often can take weeks or even months. For immediate care, cover the furniture depression with a damp cloth, steam with a warm iron and then brush the pile briskly with a coin or kitchen butter knife that is not sharp. Correct professional cleaning will usually remove depressions. |

Day to Day Care - For Furniture
|
- Weekly vacuuming is important, especially on the cushions.
- If at all possible, keep furniture out of direct rays of sunlight. The ultraviolet rays of direct sun will fade any fabric.
- Never brush fiber with a stiff fiber or steel brush which may distort the fabric.
- If cushions are reversible, reverse each week when vacuuming them.

Day to Day Care - For Drapery
|
|
The routine care of your drapes is relatively easy since they do not receive the same treatment your carpets and furniture do. Vacuuming the drapes on a scheduled basis is the most important job you can perform. Dust particles in the air adhere to the drapery material more rapidly than sometimes meets the eye. On days when the air is dry, a static charge will build up in your drapes which attracts dust particles at a considerably higher rate. You should have your drapes professionally cleaned every two years.
